There is no one-size-fits-all
way to being human
Neither should our approach to healing be.
A relational, person-centered approach to trauma, chronic illness, life transitions, ALTERED STATES AND THE COMPLEXITY OF BEING HUMAN

Where healing meets being human
Life does not always arrive in neat, understandable pieces. Trauma, illness, loss, change, altered states, identity and experiences we simply do not have words for can leave us trying to make sense of ourselves.
I do not believe every mental health difficulty or human struggle needs to be pathologised. Nor do I believe every experience needs to be explained, fixed or fitted into a particular psychological or spiritual story. Sometimes healing is less about finding the right answer and more about changing the way we meet what is already here.
That might mean listening to the body, becoming curious about different parts of ourselves, making sense of an experience together, or simply allowing something to remain uncertain for a while.
My role is not to decide what your experience means for you. It is to offer a thoughtful, grounded space where you can explore it with curiosity, honesty and care.
We begin with you, exactly where you are.
And I don’t come to this pretending I have life figured out either.
I come as I am, and I invite you to do the same. We are all still finding our way through what it means to be human. I may bring training, experience and another perspective, but I don’t bring all the answers.
You remain the authority on your own experience.

Areas of support and My Approach

I begin with you, not a framework. Together, we find a way of working that makes sense for who you are and what you bring through conversation, the body, different parts of yourself, meaning-making, or often a combination of these.
I bring curiosity, warmth, honesty and challenge, with two feet firmly on the ground. Whether we’re exploring something psychological, embodied, spiritual or difficult to explain, I believe in staying grounded while remaining open to what we may not yet understand.
I’m deeply committed to the people I work with, but this is your journey. I can walk alongside you, ask questions, offer perspective and support the process, but I can’t do the work for you. It asks for your curiosity, participation, and willingness to meet yourself along the way.
The relationship is part of the work, not just the place where the work happens. There is a kind of symbiosis in genuine connection ; we affect and respond to one another, while remaining ourselves. I believe something can emerge between two people that neither could create alone.
My approach is person-centred, relational and integrative. I believe people are complex, and no single way of understanding or working with someone will fit everyone.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Carey. I’m a Relational Somatic Therapist & Integration Practitioner, working with people navigating trauma, chronic illness, life transitions, altered states of consciousness, and the complexities of simply being human, including experiences that don’t always fit neatly into conventional boxes.
My work sits somewhere between conventional talk-based approaches and more holistic ways of understanding ourselves. Psychology and trauma-informed work form a significant part of my foundation, alongside training and study in relational and somatic approaches, parts work, psychedelic and altered-state integration, and energy medicine.
For me, being trauma-informed isn’t about seeing trauma everywhere. It’s about understanding it well enough that we don’t cause harm when it’s already there.
My work is also shaped by lived experience, including complex trauma, chronic illness, years of my own therapy, somatic work, and altered states. These experiences have given me a deeply personal understanding of how complex healing can be, and how much the right relationship can matter.
I’m not a psychologist, and I wouldn’t describe myself as a coach. I use the word therapist in the spirit of its Greek roots, therapeuein: to attend to, to care for. That comes closest to how I understand what I do.
I’m heart-centred, with two feet firmly on the ground. I bring curiosity, honesty and care to this work, alongside a strong commitment to consent, autonomy, scope, continued learning and responsible practice.

I came to Carey looking for something different from conventional psychology. Our sessions have helped me cope and see life in a different light.
She gives me the time and space to express how I feel, while listening attentively. The questions she asks are very insightful and guide me to look within, often helping me see a situation from a different perspective.
Her feedback is proactive and practical, with suggestions and tools I can actually work with. This has given me the opportunity to actively help myself.
Her approach and outlook towards mental health are refreshing and very real. Carey has an ability to see me as an individual, understand the reality of what I am experiencing, and know what is needed for me. Carey is a really intuitive practitioner. Her sessions are gentle, body-led and respectful of what my own energy and body are asking for. She seems to know when to work with something and, just as importantly, when to step back and allow my own process to unfold.
What I valued most was that she never imposed an interpretation on my experience. Her feedback often correlated with what I had felt or experienced myself, allowing me to understand it from within rather than being told what something meant. I felt that my autonomy and boundaries were deeply respected throughout.
The sessions helped me return to myself, slow things down and connect with parts of myself that I knew were there but hadn't quite embodied yet. Carey is personable, open and intuitive, and I trusted her to hold the space from the beginning.

What stood out for me was Carey’s discernment and her ability to help me distinguish between what was emotional, what was physical and what was spiritual. This brought a lot of clarity to what I was experiencing.
I spend a lot of my life in my thoughts and had never realised how much I was still feeling in my body. We spoke about childhood experiences I had never really spoken about before, and I started to understand how much they had affected different parts of my life.
Carey gave me the space to gently unfold what was sitting within me. After many years of therapy and inner work, I was really surprised by how much came up and how much I understood in such a short space of time.

I found it difficult to connect my emotions with what I was feeling in my body, but working with Carey helped me become much more aware of this and see and feel things differently.
Over our sessions, I was able to connect my body and emotions in a way I hadn't before. Carey was very engaging, relaxed and easy to talk to, and I felt understood and supported throughout.
I
wouldn't have done this work with anyone else.
